Refund & Return Policy – Student Marketplace Effective

Welcome to Campus Deals, the premier marketplace for students in South Africa. We strive to provide a secure, reliable, and convenient platform for buying and selling student goods. This Refund & Return Policy explains your rights and obligations regarding returning products, requesting refunds, and how these rights are supported under South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA).

By using our platform, you agree to comply with this policy and acknowledge your rights as a consumer under South African law.

1. General Principles

At Campus Deals, we value customer satisfaction and compliance with South African consumer protection laws. All sales are subject to this Refund & Return Policy. Refunds and returns are processed according to the guidelines outlined here. In line with the Consumer Protection Act, you are entitled to goods that are of good quality, in working order, and match the description provided on the platform. Any dispute arising from the purchase of goods should be resolved in accordance with this policy and the applicable provisions of South African law. Note: This policy is supplemental to the legal rights granted under the CPA. In cases where this policy conflicts with your statutory rights, your statutory rights prevail.

2. Eligibility for Returns

You may request a return if: The item delivered is damaged, defective, or non-functional. The item is materially different from the product description, images, or specifications listed on the marketplace. The item qualifies for return within the stated return period. Timeframe for returns: Returns must be initiated within 7 calendar days from the date of delivery. If the item is damaged, defective, or not as described, you must notify us immediately to ensure prompt resolution. Items Not Eligible for Return: Items explicitly marked as “final sale” or “non-returnable”. Items damaged due to improper handling or misuse after delivery. Digital products, downloads, or services unless otherwise specified. South African Law Reference: Section 55(2) of the Consumer Protection Act guarantees consumers the right to goods that are of good quality, in working order, and reasonably suitable for the purpose intended. 

3. Return Process

 To initiate a return: Log in to your account and navigate to “Orders” > “Request Return”. Select the item to return and provide a clear reason for the return, including photos if applicable. The seller or marketplace support team will review your request within 2 business days. If approved, you will receive a Return Authorisation along with instructions for returning the product. Once the returned item is received and inspected, a refund will be processed according to the guidelines below. Important: All returns must be packaged securely to prevent further damage during transit. 

4. Refund Process 

Refunds are generally issued via the original payment method used during purchase. Standard processing times: Instant EFT / Online Banking: 2–5 business days Credit/Debit Card: 5–10 business days Mobile Payments: 2–5 business days Refunds cover the purchase price of the item only. Platform commissions or processing fees may not be refundable unless the item was delivered as damaged, defective, or not as described. Exchanges: Exchanges are handled as a return followed by a new purchase. Contact the seller or support team to arrange an exchange. South African Law Reference: Sections 56–58 of the Consumer Protection Act state that a consumer has the right to return goods that are defective, unsafe, or not fit for purpose, and receive a repair, replacement, or refund. 

5. Shipping & Return Costs 

Buyer Responsibility: Return shipping costs are generally the responsibility of the buyer. Seller or Marketplace Responsibility: If the item is defective, damaged, or not as described, the seller or marketplace will cover return shipping costs. Prepaid return labels may be provided in such cases. Tip: To reduce disputes, always inspect items immediately upon delivery and report issues promptly. 

6. Platform & Seller Responsibilities Seller Responsibilities:

 Provide accurate product descriptions, images, and specifications. Respond to return requests within 2 business days. Refund the purchase price for valid returns, excluding platform commissions unless stated otherwise. Marketplace Responsibilities: Ensure all disputes are handled fairly and promptly. Mediate between buyers and sellers if there is a disagreement. Provide clear instructions and support for initiating returns or refunds. 

7. Legal Disclaimer 

This policy does not limit your rights under South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act (CPA). The CPA provides consumers with additional protections regarding product quality, safety, and returns. The platform is committed to compliance with all relevant laws, and any invalid provisions in this policy will not affect your statutory rights.
